The Cleantech Bootcamp is designed for individuals and employers seeking to develop practical knowledge and technical competence in renewable energy systems for buildings, focusing on Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP), Solar Thermal Systems, and Biomass Technologies.
As the construction and engineering sectors transition toward low-carbon and sustainable energy solutions, there is an increasing demand for professionals who can install, maintain, and fault-find across a range of renewable technologies. This Bootcamp offers a comprehensive blend of theory, hands-on training, and assessment, ensuring learners gain the competence and confidence to work safely and effectively within the green construction industry.
Learners will work in specialist workshops to explore system design, hydraulics, commissioning, and maintenance procedures, as well as the science and operating principles behind renewable heating systems.
By the end of the course, learners will:
- Understand the operating principles of ASHP, GSHP, Solar Thermal, and Biomass systems.
- Be able to identify components, carry out maintenance, and troubleshoot faults.
- Apply correct installation, commissioning, and servicing practices for multiple renewable technologies.
- Demonstrate safe working practices and compliance with current regulations and industry standards.
- Understand system efficiency, controls, and integration with existing heating systems.
This programme is ideal for engineers, installers, or construction professionals looking to expand into renewable technologies, or employers wanting to upskill staff for green retrofit and new-build projects.

Entry Criteria
Learners must be:
· Aged 19 or over
· Have the right to work in the UK
· Live within the East Midlands Combined County Authority region
Fees
This programme is heavily subsidised by the government. For SMEs (less than 250 employees) a 10% contribution is required from the employer. For larger employers, a 30% contribution is required.
- Small & Medium Employers (SMEs, under 250 employees):
- 90% Government-funded
- Employer contribution = 10% (£225 per learner)
- Large Employers (250+ employees):
- 70% Government-funded
- Employer contribution = 30% (£675 per learner)
