Course Information

Course Content

The Additive Manufacture and Design Skills Bootcamp has been developed to address the growing demand for skills in 3D design, prototyping, and digital manufacturing.

Additive manufacturing, often known as 3D printing, is transforming the way products are designed and produced in industries such as aerospace, automotive, healthcare, and engineering. The technology allows for faster product development, reduced waste, and greater innovation in design.

This Bootcamp will provide learners with a practical, hands-on introduction to the full additive manufacturing workflow — from initial CAD design through to slicing, printer setup, material selection, production, and post-processing. Learners will also explore the latest developments in additive manufacturing, including resin-based printing, advanced print settings, and multi-material techniques.

By the end of the programme, learners will:

  • Understand the principles and applications of additive manufacturing in industry
  • Be able to design and modify models using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software
  • Prepare, slice, and print models using Cura software and FDM printers
  • Gain experience with a range of 3D printing materials, including PLA, ABS, PETG, and resins
  • Develop troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to address common print issues
  • Apply finishing and post-processing techniques to create professional-quality parts
  • Complete a capstone project, designing, slicing, and printing their own object from concept to finished product

The course has been designed to help employers upskill their workforce in emerging digital manufacturing techniques, providing staff with practical skills that can be applied immediately in the workplace.
